The City of Melrose announced in its Oct. 16 "Week Ahead" update that early in-person voting for the Nov. 3 General Election begins Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 562 Main Street. Early voting continues during City Hall business hours over the following two weeks and again next Saturday, Oct. 24. The last day to register to vote for the election is Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. at the Clerk's Office on the first floor of City Hall.

On Saturday, Keep Melrose Beautiful holds its Fall Community Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon at locations around the city, with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 18. The same day, the Department of Public Works holds a household hazardous waste collection event from 8 a.m. to noon at Melrose High School, 360 Lynn Fells Parkway, entering via Melrose Street. Proof of residency may be requested.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has notified the city that overnight construction will begin the night of Oct. 18 at the Wyoming Hill Commuter Rail station, where crews will build canopy steel structures between 12:30 and 5 a.m., five nights a week from Sunday to Thursday, for about four weeks. The work will not affect regular train schedules and is meant to keep the station's accessibility project on schedule for substantial completion by late fall. The upgrades are designed to improve station accessibility, enhance the customer experience and ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Melrose Energy Advocate will host two free workshops at the Melrose Public Library: a landlord energy savings session Monday and an energy-efficient home renovation session Tuesday, both at 6:30 p.m. The Health and Human Services Department also has a limited supply of free iHealth flu/COVID rapid test kits available at the Health Department in City Hall while supplies last, limited to one box per household, and will hold a free flu shot clinic Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Milano Center.
