Melrose Council Approves Nuisance Orders, Insurance Renewal, and Bridge Update

MELROSE -- June 21, 2018, Melrose City Council approved nuisance abatement orders, an insurance renewal, and a conduit financing consent at its June 21 meeting. The council honored a Melrose High School track athlete who won the state 800-meter title and set a new school record with a time of one minute, 56.23 seconds. Chamber President Tom Bootie previewed Riverfest, projecting attendance of up to 3,000 for Saturday's parade and big-band evening. The council approved a general liability and property insurance premium of $173,843, split 34 percent to the general fund and 66 percent to utilities, and consented to the refinancing of a $6.5 million conduit bond on behalf of ProLiant at no cost to the city. Two nuisance abatement resolutions, for properties at 823 First Street Southeast and 2932 Tammy, were approved after multiple rounds of inspection and personal service of notice. The Fifth Avenue Bridge project's environmental assessment worksheet entered a 30-day public comment period, with construction now unlikely before 2020 after the current state bonding cycle allocated only $5 million statewide.
