Melrose Select Board approves trail paving, dam project costs, and social media policy

MELROSE — June 18, 2020 — Melrose Select Board approves trail paving contracts and additional dam project engineering costs at June 18 meeting. The board unanimously approved a $19,925 contract with Riley Brothers Construction to pave the Sauk River Park trail and a $4,900 contract with Mark Lee Asphalt for the Meadowlark Park loop, drawing on roughly $7,500 in leftover Country Club trail funds. A $24,800 contract for a sidewalk along County Road 13 near the high school was also approved from the street department budget. On the long-running RDB dam and road project, the board authorized $19,789 in additional costs to engineering firm WSB for a Stream Quantification Tool analysis newly required by the Army Corps of Engineers — about one-third the cost of the traditional reference reach survey the DNR had initially sought — with City Administrator Colleen noting the project remains roughly $1 million short of full funding. The board also adopted four nuisance abatement resolutions targeting properties with inoperable vehicles and construction debris, authorized a part-time police officer search, and adopted a city social media policy governing its Facebook and YouTube accounts.
