Melrose Select Board Approves Police Hire and Quick Trip Liquor License

MELROSE — February 15, 2024 — Melrose's Select Board approved a raft of personnel actions and a new liquor license at its February 15 meeting. The board unanimously approved the hire of police officer Kaylin Rehr to replace departing Officer Dave Bonfield, with Police Chief Chris Craig telling the board background checks were roughly 85 percent complete and the department hoped to have Rehr "up and running by summer." The board also unanimously approved Alexandra Evenson — chosen from 30 applicants — as the city's new receptionist and building permit technician at step one of the wage schedule. An off-sale 3.2 malt liquor license was granted to Quick Trip Inc. Store No. 1215, covering the renewal period through March 1, 2025, and Ordinance No. 0215-2024 rezoned a mostly-wetland parcel near Interstate 94 and Craft Drive from R2 residential to industrial to allow a billboard. The board also directed staff to draft a resolution opposing the process used to adopt Minnesota's new state flag, with one member arguing the 1859-era design "should be voted on by the people, not just by non-elected officials."
