Melrose Select Board Approves Festival License, Police Hire, and Broadband Resolution

MELROSE — August 15, 2019 — Melrose Select Board approves festival liquor license, broadband grant resolution, and police hire in busy August session. The board unanimously approved a temporary on-sale liquor license for the new Melrose Small Festival — a three-day rodeo, car show, and community event planned by the New Munich JC's for September 6 through 8 at the craft lot and Sauk River Park — contingent on insurance sign-off from the city's carrier. The board also passed Resolution 2019-42 committing $10,319 in Tax Increment Financing funds toward a Minnesota border-to-border broadband grant to bring fiber to the I-94 industrial park, with grant results expected in January. A new police officer hire, identified only as Jennifer and selected from a pool of 22 applicants, was approved contingent on completion of background, psychological, and physical exams. On a Dela Court property dispute, the council followed the Matter Board's recommendation to reassess merged Lots 6 and 7 at $25,462, rejecting a buyer's request to reduce the figure to $12,000.
