Melrose Board Expands Ambulance Leadership, Awards $149,005 Street Contract

MELROSE — April 15, 2021 — Melrose Select Board unanimously approved two new ambulance leadership positions and awarded a $149,005 street improvement contract at its April 15 meeting. The board voted to create a training officer and a secretary within the ambulance department, both council-appointed and set to begin July 1 — ahead of the usual January organizational meeting timeline. Ambulance Coordinator Jen Tashida told the board "there's a lot of momentum" following recent membership changes and said job descriptions are nearly complete. The new wage structure sets the assistant coordinator at $5,000 per year, the training officer at $2,500, and the secretary at $500, with the medical director's stipend rising from $500 to $2,000. On the infrastructure side, Mark Lee Excavating of Alexandria was the low bidder among six for the 2021 street improvement project, coming in at $149,005 against an engineer's estimate of $156,266.
